The Swedish Air Force successfully demonstrated their Door Gunner Trainer Prototype at the recent Air Defence days at the Malmen Air Base. The event was one part of the celebration of the Swedish Air Force 90 year anniversary. The Trainer Prototype takes advantage of COTS technology and Open Standards to deliver low cost tactical and procedural training. Pitch Technologies hosted the trainer in their booth at the event.
Over the course of the 4 days some 250 ‘training missions’ were flown, with over 75,000 simulated rounds fired – thus the cost of the trainer was effectively paid for in savings on live firing in less than one week. And that isn’t even taking into account helicopter pilot, fuel, maintenance and range costs.
